TEENAGE WASTELAND--Inspired by an unconventional high school teacher in upstate New York during the early 1990s, a group of teenagers create a student documentary that unexpectedly uncovers evidence suggesting their community’s water supply has been contaminated by industrial pollution. Thirty years later, the former students reunite to revisit both their youthful investigation and its lasting impact on their lives and community. The film combines a coming-of-age story, environmental investigation, and archival documentary, using the teenagers’ original footage to examine the power of curiosity, civic engagement, and documentary filmmaking itself.
